Whether you are an athlete, a weekend warrior, or someone who enjoys staying active, Sports Medicine is crucial in preventing injuries, rehabilitating injuries, and optimizing your performance. Our dedicated team of Certified Athletic Trainers and Physical Therapists are here to support you every step of the way.

What is Sports Medicine?

Sports Medicine encompasses injury prevention, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities. A range of healthcare professionals, including Physicians, Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers, and Orthopedic Surgeons, are a part of the Sports Medicine team. They collaborate to provide comprehensive care tailored to your individual needs.

Benefits of Sports Medicine

Injury prevention is an essential component of Sports medicine. During Pre-Participation Examinations, our team of Certified Athletic Trainers and Physical Therapists work to identify potential risk factors and develop personalized strategies to minimize injury risks. By addressing these risk factors, we aim to prevent injury to keep you active and healthy. These strategies may include proper warm-up and cool-down exercises and strength and conditioning programs.

Despite preventative measures, sports injuries still occur. Common injuries include sprains, strains, fractures, dislocations, and concussions. Our team of Certified Athletic Trainers and Physical Therapists are well-equipped to diagnose and treat these injuries. Proper rehabilitation is essential for athletes to regain strength, mobility, and functionality to return to optimal performance. At STAR Physical Therapy, we provide individualized care that includes sport-specific exercises to help athletes achieve their goals and return to sport quickly and safely. Injured athletes may receive Sports Medicine treatment on the field or in the Athletic Training Room. Athletes who require more comprehensive rehabilitation may be referred to one of our Clinics to complete formal Physical Therapy.

Beyond treating injuries, Sports Medicine focuses on improving athletic performance. Our team of Certified Athletic Trainers and Physical Therapists can help athletes enhance their strength, endurance, flexibility, and agility to improve performance and prevent injury. We serve all athletes as our team has worked with athletes of all ages and levels of play – from weekend warriors to middle and high schools to elite Olympic and professional athletes. No matter your level of sports or activity, we are here to help you reach your full potential.

What is a Certified Athletic Trainer?

Certified Athletic Trainers are highly skilled licensed healthcare professionals who work under the direction of a physician to provide care for athletes. They work closely with the Sports Medicine team, coaches, and parents to improve function and return athletes to activity quickly and safely. At STAR Physical Therapy, our team of Certified Athletic Trainers works in various settings throughout the community – in schools, sports venues and recreation centers, physician’s offices, and Physical Therapy clinics. Their expertise and dedication ensure that you receive the highest level of care.

Our team of Certified Athletic Trainers can also assist schools in acquiring volume bid pricing through preferred Sports Medicine supply vendors and help establish a manageable Athletic Training supply budget. In addition, Certified Athletic Trainers can coordinate Pre-Participation Examinations (Physicals) for school-aged athletes in conjunction with area physician groups for the schools we serve. We are committed to supporting the health and well-being of athletes at all levels.
