Dry Needling

Dry Needling uses small, thin needles to provide physical stress and biomechanical stimuli to affected tissues. By inserting these needles, tissues can be physically stretched to improve mobility.  Small lesions can be created which creates a physiologic response to remodel injured and inflamed soft tissues in and around the needling site. This can facilitate healing and repair of tissues that have been damaged.

Dry Needling can enhance traditional physical therapy by reducing pain and inflammation and reducing excessive tension in tissues which can lead to improved biomechanics of the body and restored function for the patient. Traditional strengthening and functional activity are then able to be completed with the patient to restore normal activities.

Modern Dry Needling is based on Western neuroanatomy and modern scientific study of the muscles and nervous system. It is an adjunct modality to our traditional physical therapy techniques that may benefit patients that suffer from:

  • Repetitive stress injuries
  • Tendonitis or tendinopothy
  • Muscle strains
  • IT band syndrome
  • Patellofemoral dysfunction
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Rotator cuff impingement
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • SI joint dysfunction
  • Sciatica
